Overlord was an awesome mission, not just for our troops, but for all of the allies and nations that stood against tyranny and the Nazi machine. It was the largest air, land, and sea operation undertaken before and since then. 5,000 ships, 11,000 airplanes, and over 150,000 service men took part of this epic assault to destroy the enemies of freedom.
The troops coming off the boat, carrying 80lbs of gear, found themselves in an area that couldn't be called anything else but Hell. There was no protection for them once they arrived on the beach for another 200 yards. They had to fight off enemy artillery and other obstacles before they could breach the enemy lines. Through all of the missile's, gun fire, and explosions, the allies advanced and breached the walls of the enemy. The will of the allies was more powerful than any weapon ever forged. Through the help and grace of Almighty God and our resilient service men, the allies prevailed and turned the tide in World War II.
It was a day of days. In that hour, hope and freedom endured. Remember what they did and why they did it. God bless our troops and God bless the United States of America.
